PRODUCTS
La Nougaterie offers its delicious nougat in addition to many handcrafted sweets. There are meringue, marshmallow, honeymoons, spreads and jams, island corks, butters (apples, blueberries, etc.) and nougats in all their forms. All products are made in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans.
CRAFTSMEN
Both Europeans, the owners Patrick Augier and Caroline Marelli form a united team and show a great bond both in life and at work. Inhabited by the confectionery culture, they have been in the business of cooking and baking for over 35 years.
Residents of Quebec since 2006, they opened their first store there, Ô Petites Douceurs du Quartier, two years later. There were local products, Quebec creations and differents sweets.
One day, they then decided to develop their own recipes: the store then became La Nougaterie Québec and moved to L’Îles-d’Orléans to develop production there. Since then, the owners have concocted their sweets with love and passion, helped by Cécile, the master of confectionery and chocolate.
THE HISTORY OF NOUGAT
Soft and creamy confectionery that dates back to Antiquity, nougat is made from egg white, honey and almond. At the time, it was made in the East with almonds, honey and spices. The product was also known to the Greeks, who made it with nuts.
Various tender and hard varieties have appeared over the years. True nougat, as we know it today, appeared in the middle of the 18th century. Egg whites, melted with honey and sugar, have been added to make a softer dough.
It is therefore possible to taste this famous product at La Nougaterie.
