Urban community gardens return to Petit Champlain for a third consecutive year 🌱

Petit Champlain and the Place-Royale area are coming back to life with the rhythm of planting, thanks to the return of the Urbainculteurs’ urban gardens—an initiative that has now become a must-see summer feature in the neighborhood.

For a third year in a row, around forty planting boxes have been installed throughout different areas of the district, adding a touch of greenery to the heart of our urban environment. These small-scale gardens allow visitors and residents to discover a lively landscape where vegetables, herbs, and edible plants grow throughout the summer.

Beyond beautifying the surroundings, this project also carries an important social mission. Once harvested, the fruits and vegetables grown in the boxes will be donated to a food aid organization to help support individuals and families in need within the community.

This initiative once again demonstrates that it is possible to create greener urban spaces while taking concrete steps to promote solidarity and collective engagement.

The Quartier Petit Champlain Cooperative is proud to continue this partnership with Les Urbainculteurs and warmly thanks its partners, the City of Québec and Desjardins, whose support makes this project possible year after year.

During your next visit to the neighborhood, take a moment to observe our urban gardens: behind every box lies a small gesture that helps make our environment more beautiful, more vibrant, and more supportive. 🌿

The Return of the Umbrellas and Summer Installations

The transformation is almost complete, and the team at the Petit-Champlain District Cooperative is working hard to coordinate the final details of our outdoor installations.

Our parks are now equipped with Adirondack chairs, tables and umbrellas for visitors to enjoy.

The colourful umbrellas have returned to Cul-de-Sac Street (thanks to Destination Québec cité for their continued support once again this year).

Flower arrangements and urban gardens will be installed over the coming weeks, adding the finishing touches to our magical summer setting.

PONY’s exhibition is now fully in place and will continue to brighten our district until August 3.

A few special surprises have also been installed to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

Almost everything is ready to welcome you to our beautiful neighbourhood!

Translation of Quebec City's press release

Quebec City, June 2, 2025 - Quebec City announces the opening of new public washrooms in the heart of the Old Quebec, at 56, boulevard Champlain. The new facilities include eight toilets, two of which are universally accessible to ensure inclusive service for all.

This initiative is part of the city's commitment to provide visitors and residents with modern accessible amenities to make their visit, to busy tourist areas such as the Petit-Champlain, even more enjoyable.

"The addition of these public toilets is excellent news for the Petit Champlain neighborhood, where public spaces are limited to accommodate this type of infrastructure," said Cap-aux-Diamants district councillor Mélissa Coulombe-Leduc. "It's a solid improvement to the urban experience for citizens and tourists alike."

Enhancing the quality of life in the Old Quebec
Improving the number of available public toilets is in line with the city's vision of making the Old Quebec a sustainable living environment that places the quality of life of its citizens, workers and tourists at the heart of its development, while promoting the consolidation of local services. With this in mind, the city opened additional restrooms on the Dufferin Terrace last year.

A list of all public toilets is available on the city's website: Public toilets (in French).

We also don’t forget Événements Asselin, Christophe, and his entire team, who ensure the installation of the decorations, such as the Christmas trees and the illuminated crossings.

Thanks also to the team at the Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain, who create an unforgettable atmosphere every year.

A big thank you to the artists as well, behind Flip Fabrique and EXMURO, whose creativity and energy turn the event into a true masterpiece.
